The TICAL Conference will hold a special call to receive proposals of innovative ICT projects that aim to make significant improvements in the universities. The selected projects will be presented in a special session at TICAL2017, which will be held in July 2017 in Costa Rica.

International speaker of TICAL2016, the Brazilian engineer and professor Silvio Meira was one of the most commented names of the sixth edition of the Conference, held from September 13 to 15 in Buenos Aires. His presentation "The hour of performance in times of digital transformation" was praised by the audience and generated discussions about how institutions and academic networks should adapt to new technologies. In this interview, Meira comments on his opinion on ICT in the region, explains the concept of digital performance and the impact of this new technological moment on education.

To be held in July 2017 in the city of San José, Costa Rica, TICAL2017 opens its call for the presentation of papers around the thematic axes defined by the Program Committee: ICT Solutions for Teaching, ICT Solutions to Support Research, ICT Solutions for ICT Management, Management and Governance, Software Infrastructure and Development, Information Security and Value Added Services for Advanced Academic Networks. The call will close on April 3, 2017 at 24:00 GMT, and the papers must be sent strictly according to the format established in the TICAL2017 Guide of Authors (download it from http://tical2017.redclara.net/images/docs/Conferencia_TICAL2017_Guia_Autores.doc) in Word and PDF formats, by email to: tical@redclara.net.

After the successful sixth edition, in Buenos Aires, the Conference of the ICT Directors of the Latin American universities returns to Central America, where it was held for the first time in 2011.
