The initiative, organised by CUDI and LAMOD with infrastructure support from PIG and Grid-UNAM, will take place on 22 and 23 August in a hybrid format and will bring together participants with varying levels of experience to develop data science solutions for the classification of variable astronomical objects.

For the first time, an underwater fibre-optic network has crossed the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta to connect stilt-house communities and strategic municipalities north of the Magdalena River, in an initiative led by Colombia’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies and implemented by RENATA, the country’s National Research and Education Network (NREN) and a member of RedCLARA.

RNP participated in the AngoREN National Roadshow 2026, the National Education and Research Network of Angola, on May 11th in Luanda and May 13th in Benguela, at the invitation of the Angolan Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESCTI), within the scope of the Higher Education, Science and Technology Development Project (TEST). The event brought together representatives from the government, higher education institutions, research centers and strategic partners, including telecommunications companies, to present AngoREN and the Executive Roadmap for the Digital Transformation of Higher Education.

On 19 May, Dr Moisés Torres, Director-General of the University Corporation for Internet Development (CUDI), took part in a session at ENRICH Connect, an international forum that brings together innovation centres from the European Union and Latin America to share best practice and explore opportunities for collaboration in the fields of innovation, business acceleration and regional integration.

Universities and research centres are currently facing one of the greatest challenges of the digital age: protecting the knowledge, data and infrastructure that make education, science and innovation possible.
