The Asia Pacific Advanced Network, APAN connects the research and education networks of Asia and Oceania to each other and to other research networks around the world. APAN coordinates developments and interactions among its members, and with peer international organisations, in both network technology and applications, and is a key driver in promoting and facilitating network-enabled research collaboration; knowledge discovery; telehealth; and natural disaster mitigation. In this interview the Interim General Manager of APAN, George McLaughlin, presents his view of regional research and education network and the importance of global collaboration.

June will be IPv6 month. June the 6th has been chosen as “World IPv6 Launch Day”, an event for the final switch to the new Internet protocol. After the success of the test conducted in 2011 with World IPv6 Day during which the IPv6 protocol was tested during twenty-four hours, this year the most important Internet companies and organizations will begin permanently enabling the new protocol on their websites on 6 June.

Since March 12th, 2012, Lucas Giraldo Ríos, a business manager and an aspirant of a master on science management, is the Executive Director of the National Academic Network of Advanced Technology, RENATA from Colombia. Since his arrival, Rios has taken the responsibility to promote advanced network as life commitment, and as a way to give back to Colombia all it has given to him. "RENATA is the house of RedCLARA in Colombia" he emphasis. Giraldo is sure that hand to hand work with Red CLARA is essential to build up the scientific community in the country.
