LACNet has been accredited as Liaison category A in the ISO/TC 307 Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies

LACNet, the non-profit legal entity responsible for orchestrating the blockchain networks of the LACChain initiative, result of the alliance between RedCLARA and LACNIC and led by IDB Lab, has successfully completed due diligence and received approval with no objections, demonstrating the competence and expertise required to contribute to the development of International Standards and promote their implementation in Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies. As a result, the ISO´s Committee’s Secretariat confirmed during the Plenary in Montreal 2023 that LACNet has been qualified with the status of “Liaison category A”.

To clarify, external liaison representatives of an organization are responsible for ensuring that the organization’s specialized experience and expertise are incorporated during the development of standards in an ISO committee. There are three different categories of external liaison in ISO: A) TC/SC level; B) TC/SC level for inter-governmental organizations; and C) WG level.

As a “Liaison category A”, LACNet will actively contribute to the development of blockchain standards. This participation will enable LACNet to offer valuable insights, perspectives, and best practices from the Latin America and the Caribbean region for a global impact. By having a seat at the table, LACNet can help shape the standards to align with the region’s specific needs, challenges, and opportunities, ensuring that they are inclusive and relevant.

This accreditation also allows LACNet and its ecosystem to align its practices and protocols with internationally recognized standards. This assures our users that their projects conform to international standards in blockchain and DLT, enhancing their reputation and credibility while ensuring that our services meet internationally recognized quality benchmarks and accountability.
