Scientific Collaboration in Advanced Computing


SCALAC, Sistema de Cómputo Avanzado para América Latina y el Caribe organiza e integra para la región una infraestructura estratégica en el ámbito de la computación de altas prestaciones a partir de una arquitectura avanzada que comprende tanto la computación de alto rendimiento (HPC), computación científica como de alta productividad (HTC). 

Aunque fue creada por una declaración de intención el 1 de marzo de 2013 en la ciudad de Bucaramanga, Colombia, con representantes de las diferentes Redes Avanzadas Nacionales adscritas a RedCLARA y representantes de Sistemas Nacionales de Cómputo de Alto Rendimiento, Centros de Supercomputación y la observación de representantes internacionales, SCALAC se encuentra legalmente registrada en Costa Rica como asociación sin ánimo de lucro, desde el 2019. 

Sus principales objetivos son la integración de recursos computacionales avanzados y el desarrollo de actividades para el fortalecimiento de las competencias que permitirán el desarrollo de proyectos de interés regional.


Community Goals

Establish cooperation guidelines between RedCLARA and SCALAC, in order to:

  • Promote access to high-performance computing resources in the region, so that they can be used by its community of students, researchers and technologists.
  • Strengthen skills in the development of projects that involve scientific and high-performance computing.

Actions

In order to coordinate actions, align policies and work together on projects of interest, the following actions will be carried out:

  • Development of connectivity plans that, together with national networks, guarantee service levels and access to available infrastructure.
  • Contribute to increasing awareness and information about the activities of SCALAC, RedCLARA, both to its associates, as well as to new potential users and those responsible for making decisions within the respective beneficiary communities.
  • Investigate opportunities to plan joint activities at an international level to promote your work and the results of the activities carried out.
