We are all cyberheroes: GÉANT’s Cybersecurity Month campaign comes to a successful close with the support of RedCLARA

As October draws to a close, so do the activities of the Cybersecurity Month: Become a Cyberhero promoted by the pan-European advanced network GÉANT and supported by RedCLARA, to inform its community and NRENs around the world about issues such as online privacy, phishing, social engineering, ransomware and cyber incidents in general. In 2023, the month of activities was supported by the Latin America and Caribbean regional network for simultaneous translation into Spanish and Portuguese of the weekly talks given by security experts from the industry and the wider GÉANT community, extending knowledge sharing and learning opportunities to other audiences.

The last of the webinars took place on October 24 with a session on the experience of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands in the process of raising awareness of the importance of cybersecurity among its staff. The “Success of an internal I&E awareness program: approaches and results” session featured Jan Landsaat, Head of Privacy at Hogeschool Rotterdam. The university is the first and only large educational institution in the Netherlands to require all its employees (more than 4,000 people) to undergo security and awareness training.

The webinars kicked off on October 5 with the topic of cybersecurity for universities, current threats, and how to deal with them. On October 12, a panel of experts discussed of “Phishing Simulations.” Both sessions are now available on the GÉANT´s YouTube channel. In addition to the weekly sessions, GÉANT shared short videos with tips and advice from experts from international M&E organizations, in-depth interviews with cyber heroes from the community, blogs, and much more.
