GÉANT's Cybersecurity Month campaign: "Become a Cyber Hero"

Online privacy, phishing, social engineering, ransomware, and the importance of reporting cyber incidents are the main topics of the “Become a Cyber Hero” campaign being promoted for another year by the European advanced network GÉANT.

The initiative is part of Cybersecurity Month, celebrated every October to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity, and shares various messages on social networks with the hashtags #CyberSecMonth and #BecomeACyberHero.

Each week in October, GÉANT will share short videos with tips and advice from experts from international I&E organizations, in-depth interviews with cyber heroes from the community, blogs, and more. It will also broadcast the new animated series: “Cybercrime for Beginners.”

In addition, webinars are being hosted by security experts from industry and the wider GÉANT community. The webinar series has a partnership with RedCLARA, which supports live interpretation services in three languages (English, Spanish, and Portuguese), extending knowledge-sharing and learning opportunities to audiences in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The webinars kicked off on October 5 with the topic of Cybersecurity for universities, current threats, and how to address them. They continue on October 12 with a panel of experts addressing “Phishing Simulations: to do or not to do”; on October 19 with the topic “Exploring the impact of neurodiversity on cybersecurity practice and risk management – A cyber psychological perspective”; and end on October 24, with “Successful internal awareness programme in R&E: approaches and outcomes”
