LACChain: Preparing the path for blockchain use in Latin America and the Caribbean

In the route towards the IDB Lab Forum, LACChain , the Global Alliance for the development of the blockchain ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean is getting ready to encourage the use of blockchain technology in the region.

As part of the events prior to the IDB Lab Forum that will take place on October 26 and 27, 2021; the Innovation Laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB Lab) and LACChain present: “LACChain: global alliance for the development of the blockchain ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean”. 

The event will be held in virtual mode, on September 1, 2021 , from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm ET , and in line with the 2025 vision of the Inter-American Development Bank and its principle of reinvesting in the Americas, it seeks to promote the use of blockchain technology with an impact on inclusion, digitization and the faster adoption of new technologies.

Hence, on 1 September, the public will be able to learn more about LACChain, the global alliance, led by the IDB Lab in order to drive innovation for inclusion in the region, mobilizing funding, knowledge and connections to co-create solutions capable of transforming the lives of vulnerable populations due to economic, social or environmental conditions.

The use of blockchain technology accessible to all, seeks to accelerate the use and development of applications with an impact on social, economic and financial inclusion for the recovery and sustainable economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean , so we invite you to learn more about this initiative, to deploy a node and test the LACChain networks.

The event is divided into two blocks: Block 1: a) Blockchain technology, its current application and its transformative impact and b) What is LACChain?  Block 2 consists of the showcase of use cases in which various entities with social impact, digital identity and financial services will participate.

Participants include representatives from the IDB Lab and LACChain, as well as the World Bank, other development banks, software companies, specialized blockchain firms, and many more.

LACChain is a global alliance made up of different actors in the blockchain environment, led by the innovation laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB Lab) for the development of the blockchain ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Its objective is to accelerate the enablement and adoption of blockchain technology in the region for the promotion of innovation, the reduction of economic, social, gender and any other inequalities, the promotion of the quality and safety of the jobs, promoting financial inclusion, consumer protection and market integrity. To do this, LACChain focuses on two main pillars: community and infrastructure.
