UNAM Mexico launches call for Artificial Intelligence Research projects

In order to support and encourage the development of technological innovation projects with an emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) that contribute to solving priority problems, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) invites all national research and technological development groups and groups of society in general linked to the academic sector to present research projects that require high-performance computing resources for the execution of AI algorithms with an impact on social sectors in vulnerable conditions.

(With information from CUDI Mexico) The focus of the call, which will be open until September 13, is in one or more of the following lines of action: promote and implement technologies such as deep learning, machine learning and intelligent robotics in benefit of the most vulnerable social sectors; promote and encourage the development and implementation of digital technology and promote balanced competition, as well as propose the optimization of government operations and the provision of services.

The approved projects will access the physical (hardware), software (logical) and training resources that are described in the link below, in accordance with the Guidelines of the 2021 Call for the allocation of Resources in the UNAM-HUAWEI Innovation Space, available at https://www.alianza.unam.mx/lineamientos. Projects in all categories will have a duration of 6 months and will be able to present a renewal request for the same period only once.

UNAM's initiative is given through its Institute for Research in Applied Mathematics and Systems (IIMAS) and the General Directorate of Computing and Information and Communication Technologies (DGTIC), within the framework of the Alliance to Promote the Development of Digital Capabilities in Mexico, in which the following also participate: Huawei Technologies Mexico, the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE), the Ministry of Economy (SE), the National Council for the Promotion of Investment, Employment and Economic Growth (COFINECE ), the German Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Mexico (GIZ) and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) of the United Nations (UN).
