IDB Regional Public Goods Program 2009 is open

IDBUntil September 15, the program will be open to projects ideas that promote the collective development, competitiveness and integration of Latin America and the Caribbean in areas such as health, education, technology, agriculture and environment.

For the fifth consecutive year the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launched a call for proposals 2009 for the Regional Public Goods Program (RPG) for the promotion of regional collective action on high-impact issues for economic growth and poverty reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean.

RPG program was created by the Executive Board of the IDB in 2004 and is a tool based on country demand, to generate public goods to promote regional integration, and encourage collective action in areas of high impact on economic growth and poverty reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to the publication, Promoting Innovative Solutions for Latin America and the Caribbean, in the four years of operation of this program, the IDB has approved approximately $37 million in grants for a total of 46 projects developed in in areas such as environmental protection, health, education, technology, financial markets, social development, nutrition, agriculture, and trafficking in persons, among others.

In this opportunity the Call will be open until September 15th and at the end of the process, the IDB will provide grants up to $10 million annually to help finance the selected proposals. With the implementation of this program, the Bank supports collective action among countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to respond more effectively to the challenges and opportunities within a regional context. The work done to date has supported innovation, South-South cooperation, and strategic alliances with the private sector, civil society organizations and specialized international organizations, to promote development in the region.

Did you know ...?

An example of strategic alliances in the IDB is implementing the project "Strengthening of CLARA Academic Regional Advanced Network as a regional public good", an initiative approved in 2006 and developed with Microsoft to strengthen RedCLARA work in the region.
