April 24, 15:00 GMT: Virtual workshop in preparation for the upcoming Digital Agenda conference on food safety

What steps could agri-food systems take to ensure a more sustainable future? Which key actors are required to coordinate agreements and actions in order to effectively implement efficient solutions? Which particular fields of study should form the basis for the forthcoming digital agenda relating to the Safety of Foods Forum, which will take place next May?

These topics will be the main focus of the preparatory workshop, "Creating responses to build resilient ecosystems in Central America." Its main goal is to start the process of identifying and implementing actions within an extended working agenda to improve food production systems in the Central American and Caribbean region.

Innovation is making global agriculture more efficient, contributing to facing challenges such as climate change and resource scarcity, which negatively impact the Central American and Caribbean Dry Corridor (Corredor Seco) in this particular region. This will be achieved by applying increasingly sophisticated agricultural technologies and practices.

The BELLA II Ideathon, which took place in February and March 2024, inspired the preparation workshop, scheduled for April 24. At the event, attendees committed to developing a regional digital plan on the topic. During the event, important opportunities and technology solutions emerged that aim to transform agricultural and food systems in the Dry Corridor. During the Ideathon, participants examined various technologies related to digital transformation, such as Industry 4.0, 5G, IoT, AI, advanced computing, big data, and Web 3.0, were examined to enhance the effectiveness, diversity, robustness, and long-term viability of these systems.

Participation in the workshops is by invitation only. The Digital Forum's program, which will take place in Costa Rica on May 7 and 8, will heavily incorporate the results.
The BELLA II initiative is currently developing the Digital Agenda for Food Safety in the region.

Bella II is one of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance's four axes. RedCLARA coordinates the project, and the European Union provides funding.
