New international certification in Digital Transformation with Industry 4.0

RedCLARA and its National Research and Education Networks (NREN) announced the second international certification of the Regional Training Platform, called “Digital Transformation with Industry 4.0”.

The platform was recently launched by RedCLARA, RNP (Brazil), CUDI (Mexico), CEDIA (Ecuador), RAU (Uruguay), and RENATA (Colombia) to provide international training programmes to the members of the Latin American NRENs. The platform aims to strengthen their capacities and promote synergies and collaborative work.

“We expect all member NRENs to be linked to this regional training platform in the future”, said Laura Castellana, RedCLARA Coordinator of Academic Projects.

The platform certifications will be held by international experts and validated by the NRENs. Also, they will have blockchain certification.

The new certification will have 120 hours, organized into three modules. The first one will focus on STEAM Methodologies for Innovation in Industry 4.0 and will be taught by experts from the NRIE of Mexico, CUDI.

This module will enable participants to adopt the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) methodology to solve problems by managing innovation. "Managing innovation requires a rebellious mindset to transform reality. We will be underpinned it by one of the frontier methodologies, which is the integration of didactic sequences using science, technology, engineering, and mathematics," explained Ángeles Solórzano, from CUDI.

The expert added that the module will use the design thinking methodology to create digital prototypes that respond to particular challenges and the participants will apply Industry 4.0 trends in their field of action.

The expert said that the design thinking methodology will be implemented to create digital prototypes to face particular challenges and all the participants will apply Industry 4.0 trends in their own fields of action.

“We are inviting the participants to join a community. All together will build solutions for Latin America Challenges, with innovative proposals from education,” she concluded.

The second module, led by the RNIE of Ecuador (CEDIA), will focus on digital transformation in companies. Specifically, it will address the fundamentals of technological innovation, its processes, methods and tools, monitoring and protection, and the implementation of innovation projects.

"We aim that all the students be able to identify and analyze the level of digitalization of a particular company, to define an innovation strategy, and review the level of integration of certain technologies such as robotics, intelligent systems, cyber-physical systems, among others," explained Katherine Solórzano of CEDIA.

The third module, led by RNIE Colombia, RENATA, will focus on innovation and organizational transformation. Participants will be able to choose between two Moocs: "understanding and creative solutions" and "leading and unfreezing the organization".

The understanding and creative solutions course will develop competencies in analyzing problems associated with crises and how to solve them using different research methods. The second Mooc will develop leadership competencies, and provide tools for innovation and entrepreneurship in organizations, and also for navigating challenging contexts.

The presentation of the certification was held in a webinar with a keynote lecture by Martha Solórzano, academic vice-rector of the Fundación Universitaria Andina, Areandina.

The expert in telecommunications and education emphasized that the digital transformation of the industry brings enormous challenges for education and for the labor market. New strategies to face it are necessary.

"Companies are generating different scenarios to take advantage of what we are already experiencing as humanity, thanks to the use of technology: digitalization, automation, and remote working acceleration," he said. “These transformations are leaving behind human tasks. By 2025, a large portion of human jobs will be replaced by technology.”

Nowadays, it will be very important to develop soft skills, carry out projects taking advantage of technology, and to align education to changes in labor markets.

RENATA's executive director, Rafael Rodríguez, pointed out the relevance of developing specific skills and lifelong learning capacities in higher education and the need to move towards inclusive education models. "Education and research models must be in permanent innovation, permeating all levels of institutions, as generators and transmitting knowledge agents," he said.

The executive director of RENATA also stressed that “continuing education and training at the professional and technical level must be aligned with industry: the content must be according to the industry, empowering young people through formal education, to have a transformative impact on society".
