Borned in Venezuela and with a vast experience in academic networks and the Latin American ICT scene, the nomination of Luis Eliécer Cadenas as the new Executive Director of RedCLARA was announced during the opening of the TICAL2017 Conference in San Jose, Costa Rica, at the beginning of last June. The executive began his duties in the advanced Latin American network on August 1^st.

In 2017, 24 of the 64 institutions affiliated to RENATA used VC Espresso, the online conference solution for seminars, meetings and virtual education provided by RENATA and RedCLARA, which allows collaborative work sessions between users located at different geographical points.

In what ways can universities take advantage of Big Data, the Internet of Things and mobile devices, enhancing their teaching and research? This and other relevant questions are the subject of the book "Enhancing the University of the XXI Century: ICT Solutions to Think the University of the Future", launched by RedCLARA in the framework of the TICAL2017 Conference (July 3 and 5, in San Jose, Costa Rica), and already available for download at the event website.
