In a virtual ceremony on Tuesday 8 August, the results and winning ideas of the "BELLA Hackathon: Copernicus Innovation Development" were announced. The challenge started on 4 July with the participation of 53 research groups from Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and a single objective: to promote the use of data from the European Union's Earth observation programme, Copernicus, in both regions.

The extension of the submarine fiber-optic cable that directly linking Europe with Latin America and the strengthening of the necessary infrastructure to consolidate a regional digital ecosystem, through the BELLA II project, are among the major commitments of the Global Gateway Investment Agenda (GGAI), announced at the EU-CELAC Summit, held in Brussels, Belgium, on 17 and 18 July.

A delegation from RedCLARA consisting of the Director of International Cooperation, Academic Relations and Communications, Mark Urban, the Academic Relations Manager, Tania Altamirano, and the Academic Projects Coordinator, Laura Castellana, participated in the 5th EU-LAC Academic Summit, which took place from July 6 to 8, in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, within the framework of the efforts of the recently signed EU-LAC Digital Alliance.
