RNP General Director receives Newton Faller Award for scientific contribution to Computing in Brazil
RNP's general director, Lisandro Zambenedetti Granville, received the "Newton Faller Award," given annually to members of the scientific community who have distinguished themselves for their services to the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC).
(Source RNP) The award ceremony took place during the 45th Congress of the Brazilian Computer Society (CSBC), which ends this Thursday (24), in Maceió.
The honor was presented by SBC President Thais Batista during the opening ceremony of the traditional Computer Science event. "We are honored to present this award in recognition of your outstanding performance in the field of computing in Brazil, with an extensive and fruitful list of contributions to SBC," said Thais as she presented the award plaque to Granville.
"It's an honor to receive this recognition from SBC. I hope that now, on this journey as RNP's director, I can continue to make even greater efforts to benefit the academic, scientific, and professional computing community in Brazil," said Granville.
A full professor at the Institute of Informatics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Granville took over as RNP's general director in April of this year, after nearly 30 years of experience in computing as a researcher and manager. He served as president of the SBC from 2015 to 2020 and as director of the Center for Research and Development in Digital Technologies for Information and Communication (CTIC).
Granville is primarily recognized for his scientific contributions to computer networks and his expertise in strategic management and development of Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) projects. He is the author of several academic publications and has received international awards, such as the IEEE ComSoc Salah Aidarous Award. At the CSBC, the RNP director-general also participated in a panel discussion on "The Grand Challenges of Computing," alongside professors Silvio Lemos Meira (UFPE) and Virgílio Almeida (UFMG), and the president of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Yannis Ioannidis.
RNP (the Brazilian education and research network) is a member of RedCLARA. It connects universities and educational, research and innovation institutions to the internet, providing secure services within a community. Within this environment, RNP collaborates with students, teachers and researchers to develop new technologies, focusing on continuous innovation. As a social organisation linked to the federal government, it supports public policies on education and research.
