Successful Stories: CUDI’s videoconference service benefits the mexican deaf community

A collaboration tool of the University Corporation for the Development of Internet (CUDI), in Mexico, is benefiting hundreds of people around the country. It is VC-CUDI, the videoconference service, which made possible the realization of the SEVIDA initiative.

Making use of the platform, the Virtual Seminars on Hearing Disabilities (SEVIDA, by its initials in Spanish), started on January 20th, 2016, aiming to train and update professionals that attend the hearing impaired and work with the environment around them. Through VC-CUDI, SEVIDA achieved important advances, such as:

• Meet and interact with different research groups led by researchers, linguists, teachers and teacher who are leaders in their fields;
• Promote collaboration and teaching through the virtual environment
• Increase the methodological variety
• Extend the accessibility and flexibility to new stakeholders
• Promote the role of disabled
• Improve the presentation and understanding of content for people with hearing impairments

The next session of SEVIDA will be held on April 25th with the theme "Inclusion of deaf professionals"; the meeting will be led by the Dr. Roció Garza Gutiérrez, from Monterrey. In support of this initiative, CUDI released in its institutional repository, the content of the first seminars, in which more than 80 users participated.
