In 2017, 24 of the 64 institutions affiliated to RENATA used VC Espresso, the online conference solution for seminars, meetings and virtual education provided by RENATA and RedCLARA, which allows collaborative work sessions between users located at different geographical points.

VC Espresso, the virtual room of RENATA, is part of Colaboratorio, the platform that brings together the tools and collaboration services for the interaction of the members of the institutions connected to the network remotely in real time, with the highest quality and the highest speed.

RENATA is the national network of research and education member of RedCLARA that most uses the VC Espresso service. Carlos González, Development Projects Leader of RedCLARA, informed that, in 2017, VC Espresso has allowed the interaction of more than 25,000 users of the national networks of RedCLARA.

The five institutions affiliated to RENATA that interact most through VC Espresso are the Universidad del Atlántico (1,208 people interacting), the Fundación Universitaria Tecnológico Comfenalco (1,024), the University of Tolima (838), the Technological University of Pereira (746) and the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (348). Other RENATA institutions that use VC Espresso are: Armada Nacional, Colciencias, Escuela Militar de Cadetes, Instituto Técnico Agrícola, MinTIC, Secretaría Distrital de Salud de Bogotá, Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (UNAB), Unicolombo, Unicomfacauca, UNIRED, Universidad Autónoma de Manizales, Universidad de Caldas, Universidad de La Salle, Universidad de Manizales, Universidad de San Buenaventura (Cartagena) Universidad del Cauca, Universidad del Magdalena, Universidad del Quindío and Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas.

"Our goal for 2017 is to reach 9,000 members of the academic community using the collaboration tools of RENATA through Colaboratorio. We invite all the institutions of the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation to articulate with RENATA, to strengthen their productivity, because together we build the future", said Leonardo Rodríguez López, Director of the colombian national network.

The RENATA affiliated institutions interested in using VC Espresso as well as the other tools of the Colaboratorio may request its training by emailing academia@renata.edu.co. Likewise, institutions interested in knowing the collaboration tools of RENATA may request the informative talk by sending an email to comunicaciones@renata.edu.co. The institutions who wish to join RENATA to take advantage of this and all the other benefits of the national research and education network can request advice through the email soluciones@renata.edu.co.

RENATA, VC Espresso and telecommuting

RENATA’s management team has interacted with this tool with more than 1,495 people from the country and the world.
According to Leonardo Rodríguez López, "in the national research network we are very committed to fostering collaborative work through the use of technological tools that we are offering to the academic community of the country, which is why this year we signed the Telework Pact that is being promoted by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies."

"From RENATA we are promoting the use of technological tools that, in addition to facilitating and optimizing the work in research and education, improve mobility in the cities of the country, optimize the quality of life of the actors of the National System of Competitiveness, Science, Technology and Innovation -SNCCTI- and even help protect the environment by helping to avoid the emission of gases that pollute our cities", he added.

RENATA is the national network of research and education in Colombia that connects, articulates and integrates the actors of the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation (SNCTI) with each other and with the world, through the provision of services, tools and technological infrastructure to contribute to the improvement of the level of productivity, effectiveness and competitiveness of the country's scientific and academic production.
