We’ve reached the 57th edition of DeCLARA with more progress and new connections

The 57th edition of our digital newsletter, DeCLARA, wraps up 2024, filled with advancements and key news that have marked the final months of the year. This final issue highlights the work and achievements in innovation, connectivity, and collaboration across Latin America and the Caribbean, underscoring the impact of initiatives driving the region's development.

The TICAL 2024 conference, which took place in Rio de Janeiro from December 3 to 5, is one of the key topics. It brought together over 200 participants, establishing itself as a crucial space for knowledge exchange and collaboration in the ICT and development fields. BELLA II was one of the major protagonists of this event, reaffirming its vital role in the creation of advanced networks that facilitate regional connectivity.

In this context, the TICAL poster contest allowed participants to showcase visual proposals addressing technological challenges and solutions that directly impact the community. Meanwhile, meetings on cybersecurity and the boot camp organized in collaboration with GÉANT and RNP gathered experts to discuss challenges and solutions in the digital world, reaffirming the region's commitment to security in the digital age.

The edition also highlights the profile of Nelson Simões, president of Brazil's national research and education network (RNP), who, after a long career and significant legacy, will step down from his position in 2025. Simões' initiatives will continue to shape the development of science and innovation in the region.

In DeCLARA's 57th edition, it is detailed how BELLA II stood out at SC24 International, the International Conference on High-Performance Computing, Networks, Storage, and Analytics, which has established itself as a key forum for the HPC community.

It also talks about the important role that RedCLARA and the BELLA II project play in the EU-ALC High-Level Connectivity Dialogues, which are a key way for Europe and Latin America to improve their relationship when it comes to digital integration. BELLA II has been a cornerstone in consolidating this connection, providing the necessary infrastructure for scientific and technological exchange between both regions.

Also, at the Ministerial Conference put together by CEPAL, RedCLARA stressed how important advanced networks are as key tools for long-term growth, education, and research. It reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing international cooperation and connectivity as key drivers of progress in the region.

InnovaInvest 2024, a significant milestone in this concluding year, convened investors, entrepreneurs, and leaders of the innovation ecosystem, creating fresh prospects for disruptive projects. Additionally, the strategic meetings in Peru and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Bolivia provided new opportunities to advance the consolidation of national networks in those countries.

With this edition, we close a year of outstanding achievements, where cooperation and innovation have solidified as the foundations for a brighter future for Latin America and the Caribbean.
