Frida announces funding for IPv6- and Security-Related Projects

frida1This year the Regional Fund for Digital Innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean (FRIDA) and the Internet Society will support two technical projects seeking to improve Internet security and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean by providing them with US$20,000 or US$30,000 in the form of grants.

(Source: FRIDA) Those interested in obtaining these grants must submit their projects to the call for proposals launched by FRIDA (www.programafrida.net/), for which the deadline has been set as 13 May.

In the case of projects related to Internet security and resiliency, two grants will be offered to proposals seeking to enhance user confidence in Internet-based services and initiatives for the deployment of secure routing protocols (RPKI and BGP) and traffic exchange activities. In order to be accepted, project proposals must have an implementation component.

These grants will range from US$20,000 to US$30,000 each and they will be funded by the Internet Society and managed by FRIDA. Further information can be found at programafrida.net/subvenciones/internet-society.

In addition, a third US$20,000 grant will be provided to fund an initiative focusing on the transition to IPv6 and the deployment of this protocol in the region. In this case, public or private organizations and companies may submit proposals for the execution of projects and/or research that will help overcome the challenges posed by the transition and promote IPv6 deployment at local or regional level. Project proposals must include a detailed budget and timetable and propose concrete processes for measuring their impact. Proposals will be accepted until 13 May. For more information, go to programafrida.net/subvenciones/lacnic.

All proposals will be evaluated by FRIDA’s Selection Committee, made up by six noted experts with complementary expertise: Ida Holz, Amparo Arango, Jesus Martinez, Daniela Kreimer, Antonio Moreiras, and Juan Manuel Casanueva.
