angola foro

Counting on the presence of representatives of RedCLARA and RNP, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT) of Angola held, during January 31 and February 1st, the first edition of its “Future Forum”. Held in the capital Luanda, the event addressed the impact of science, technology and innovation on the growth and diversification of the Angolan economy, with the objective of sensitizing political and civil society representatives to the importance of the S & T sector in the country's sustainable development.

The event count on the presence of the general director of RNP, Nelson Simões, and Eduardo Grizendi, who is the Engineering and Operations Director of the Brazilian Network. Grizendi also represented the Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks (RedCLARA). RNP was theme in one of the panels, which shared its experience on how an academic network can contribute to the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation of its country. Experts from Portugal, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire and Mozambique also participated. One of the highlights was the presentation by the executive director of the Mozambican academic network, MoRENet, Lourino Chemane, about the implementation of the infrastructure that already interconnects 49 institutes of education and research in the country.

"The balance was the clear understanding and commitment of institutions and national leaders to create a network of education and research in Angola. Another important message was that investments in science and technology must be continuous, constant, and that the public leverages the private. That is, if there is no regularity in public investment, the private does not occur", said Simões.

Also in the event, the telecommunications company “Angola Cables” announced the conclusion, in 2018, of the connection of the South Atlantic Cable System (Sacs) –a submarine optical cable between the cities of Fortaleza and Luanda. In addition to Sacs, which will guarantee the first high-capacity connection between Brazil and Africa, the event announced the launch of Monet, another submarine cable financed by Angola Cables, in partnership with Google and Brazil's Algar Telecom , that will reinforce the connections between Brazil and the United States and the expansion of Angola's international output.
