Dr. Moisés Torres, the new general director of the Mexican National Education and Research Network

On April 25, during the Extraordinary General Assembly, Dr. Moisés Torres Martínez was appointed General Director of the Corporación Universitaria para el Desarrollo de Internet (CUDI).

Dr. Torres is the former president of Paragon Technologies, a company focused on consulting for integral information technology solutions. Furthermore, he served as the Coordinator of Technology and Innovation at the Open and Distance University of Mexico under the Ministry of Public Education and was an academic at the Virtual University of Guadalajara and the Banking School. He collaborates as General Director and Co-Founder of the Supercómputo A.C. Mexican Society (SOMEXSU A.C.). He is a national leader in promoting the use of supercomputing for research and science development in Mexico.

He was Coordinator of Design at the General Coordination of Information Technologies (CGTI) at the University of Guadalajara. Prior to this position, he served in various staff and teaching positions in the United States of America, including at the University of California; he was an adjunct professor in the Department of Education, Information, and Computer Science at the Irvine and Santa Cruz Campuses.  His last official position was as executive director of the University of California College Prep Online.

He served as Vice Chair of the California State Learning and Technology Commission, appointed by the Governor of the State of California. In addition, his international experience includes consulting on technology and education related projects in Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, El Salvador, Dominican Republic and South Africa.

He is also co-founder of the International Supercomputing Congress in Mexico (ISUM) where he collaborates as president of the National Committee and serves on several committees related to supercomputing. Dr. Torres has been the editor of the ISUM work reports for 10 years. In addition, he served as coordinator of the Supercomputing Community in the CUDI Applications Committee from 2012 to 2021.

Dr. Torres highlighted the importance of collaboration between the academic community and Advanced Networks.

Only by collaborating and sharing our best ideas can we have world-class connectivity focused on the country's innovation. It is an honor to collaborate with the CUDI community in this new phase”, said.
