Two panels moderated by the Executive Director of RedCLARA, Luis Eliécer Cadenas, will discuss the collaboration and actions of HPC in Latin America, Africa and Asia, on the occasion of the Latin American Conference on High Performance Computing, CARLA2022, which will take place between September 26 and 30, in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The sessions moderated by Cadenas will take place on Wednesday, September 28 and Thursday, September 29. The first of these is HPC actions in Africa and Latin America, which will present the actions that are being developed in Africa and Latin America and will explore lines of action to foster collaboration between high-end computing centers and the national networks of both regions. The meeting will feature the participation of Maïssa Mbaye, Coordinator of the African Center of Excellence in Mathematics, Informatics and ICT (ACE MITIC) Yousef Torman, General Director of the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) and Carla Osthoff, Researcher of the National Laboratory of Scientific Computing (LNCC-Brazil).

The second session is HPC Collaboration between Asia and Latin America and has as guests Prof. Toshihiro Hanawa, from the Information Technology Center of the University of Tokyo, Louis Hyunho Choi, Executive Director of the Trans Information Network Cooperation Center -Eurasia, Prof. Jianping Wu, from the Computer Science Department of Tsinghua University and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Chilean Patricio Rey, General Manager of Desarrollo País program, from Chile. This instance of discussion is also part of the actions of the Humboldt Project, a connectivity initiative led by Desarrollo País that aims to build the first fiber optic cable between South America and Asia/Oceania.

Registration to participate in CARLA and attend the sessions moderated by Cadenas is open and can be done on the event website. The conference, which began in 2014, has become the flagship HPC conference in the region and provides a forum to foster the growth and strength of the HPC community in Latin America through the exchange and dissemination of new ideas, techniques and research on HPC and its application areas.
