The Board of Directors of RedCLARA introduced the new Executive Director of the institution

A Venezuelan national, currently based in Guatemala, Luis Eliecer Cadenas Marin, computer engineer and PhD in computer science, was selected to lead the Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks (CLARA) by its Board of Directors on June 28, 2017.

Mr. Cadenas, who will assume the functions of the position on August 1st, has extensive knowledge of academic networks since its inception in Latin America. He was co-founder, President and board member of the National Academic Network of Venezuela, REACCIUN (1996-2000). He was president of the Association of the Latin American Research Network (1998-1999) and also a member of the Board of Directories of Venezuela's National Supercomputing Center (CECALCULA, 1997-1999) and Sartenejas Technological Park (1997-1999) .

The appointment of the new executive director of RedCLARA was announced within the framework of the opening ceremony of the TICAL2017 Conference, in the city of San José, Costa Rica, on July 3 of the current year.

The new Executive Director will assume the position previously held by Florencio Ignacio Utreras Días, who served as Executive Director since the founding of Clara in November 2004 until June 30, 2017. Mr. Utreras received a warm recognition for his leadership during the ceremony.

Carlos Casasús, Chair of the RedCLARA Board of Directors, expressed his deep gratitude to Florencio Utreras for his vision and leadership in the growth of research and education networks in Latin America. Casasús also spoke of his enthusiasm for a promising future under the new leadership.

Mrs. Paola Arellano Toro, who is the Executive Director of the Chilean academic network (REUNA), will occupy the position of Interim Executive Director until that date.
