Allies of RedCLARA, Michael Stanton, José Soriano and Klaas Wierenga are the new members of the Internet Hall of Fame

Eleven people from six countries around the world, including Michael Stanton, network scientist and former director of the Brazilian advanced network RNP, José Soriano, Internet pioneer in Peru, and Klaas Wierenga, creator of eduroam, have been included in the Internet Hall of Fame for its pioneering and visionary contributions to the growth, access and global security of the Internet.*

According to a note from the Internet Society, creator of the Hall, the participants, who were honored at a special ceremony in San José, Costa Rica, on September 27, have “expanded the reach of the Internet to new regions and communities, helped foster a greater understanding of the operation of the Internet and improved security to increase user confidence in the network. ”

Michael Stanton (Brazil) was instrumental in bringing the Internet to Brazil and continues to participate in the design and deployment of scalable optical networks in South America and around the world. José Soriano (Peru) was a leader in bringing the Internet to Peru and designed a replicable "public Internet" model. Klaas Wierenga, in turn, has been the creator of eduroam, an international Wi-Fi roaming service for academic and research communities in more than 100 countries.

Other honorees were Adiel Akplogan (Africa) Kimberly Claffy, Douglas Comer, Elise Gerich, Larry Irving, Dan Lynch and Jean Armor Polly (United States), and Suguru Yamaguchi (Japan).

"Internet design has always allowed people to see a problem and work to solve it," said Andrew Sullivan, president and CEO of the Internet Society. “This year's participants have given us all the great gifts of their creative approaches to the problems they have seen on the Internet. We can be inspired by them to face the next round of challenges. "
