International collaboration: RNP receives recognition for its support to the academic network of Mozambique

The Ministry of Science, Technology, Higher and Professional Technician Education of Mozambique presented to RNP a recognition for its contribution to the growth of the Mozambican academic network (MoRENet). The thanks took place during MoRENet's first annual conference, held on 10 and 11/12 in Maputo.

The event discussed how to build a common and innovative vision for the future that contributes to the use of Information and Communication Technologies in education, academic research and the management of public and institutional policies.

The conference was also dedicated to the implementation of new services, the interconnection of new institutions and the increase of bandwidth, nationally and internationally, for the coming years.

The director general of RNP, Nelson Simões, was one of the invited speakers and presented the management model of the organization. The national coordinator of the Telemedicine University Network (Rute), Luiz Ary Messina, participated by videoconference and presented the contribution of RNP and collaborative health networks for the social impact business and the 2030 agenda.

The participation also served to strengthen the articulation of the Permanent Working Group on Telemedicine and Telehealth of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), whose pro tempore presidency was passed from Brazil to Cape Verde in October.

Five years of cooperation

The collaboration between Brazil and Mozambique comes from 2013, when the ministries of Science and Technology of both countries signed a bilateral cooperation agreement between the RNP and MoRENet academic networks.

The partnership was structured in three axes: good practices in management and governance; IT training; and technical-operational information. "These actions have contributed significantly to the growth of MoRENet in recent years in terms of the number of beneficiary institutions, from 19 in 2015 to 143 in 2018, and in terms of the number of diversity of value-added services provided by MoRENet to the beneficiary institutions, "said the director of MoRENet, Lourino Chemane.

In 2018, RNP, through the Higher School of Networks, contributed to the training of 165 people connected to MoRENet and to the users of the network in Mozambique, in the areas of network security, computer systems and systems administration.
