In Colombia: RENATA and RedCLARA services generated more than 40 thousand interactions in 2018

In 2018, users of the collaboration tools of the Colombian advanced network, RENATA, generated more than 41,737 interactions through the services of VC Espresso, eNVIO, Funds and Partners, RENATA in Live and RENATA Videoconference. The network trained 1,046 members in a total of 118 sessions, to 60 of its affiliated institutions, who, thanks to the appropriation plan, learned about the potential and opportunities of the advanced network and experienced the use of the tools del Colaboratorio, the RENATA and RedCLARA platform for remotely interacting in real time with the quality, security and speed of the advanced technology network.

(Source: RENATA) In exact numbers, the tools that generated most interactions were VC Espresso (30,092), Funds and Partners (8,639) and eNVIO (2,805). "Our goal for 2019 is to encourage the use of academic network infrastructure and services through appropriation strategies that address the educational, scientific and innovation needs of each of the institutions", said Andrea Cerón, RENATA's academic project coordinator.

The University of the Atlantic, the University of La Salle, the University Foundation of the Andean Area and the Comfenalco University Technology Foundation are the affiliated institutions that most use the RENATA services followed by the Free University, the Casanare Governorate, the Metropolitan Technological Institute, the Technological University of Pereira, the University of Tolima, the University of Córdoba, the Francisco José de Caldas District University, the Institute of Administration and Finance (CIAF), the Government of Bolívar, the University of Manizales, the Grancolombiano Polytechnic, National Police, the Government of Tunja, the District Department of Health of Bogotá and the University of Magdalena.

In addition to the appropriation associated with the academic and scientific management of RENATA, the Network also advanced in the improvement in the appropriation of the Advanced Connectivity services. According to Carlos Ramírez, RENATA technical manager, "in 2018, we work to benefit our infrastructure and its attributes both from users of the services and from the institutions themselves".

"For example with eduroam, the researchers, professors, students and administrators of 21 of our institutions today can exclusively access the global academic wifi in more than 25,000 locations of universities, research centers, airports and metro and bus stations, in 90 countries Likewise, the peering with Google is allowing all our affiliated institutions access to the services of this company through the academic network, which has represented a significant increase in the use of network bandwidth that favors the optimization of the performance of the public internet of each institution, "he explained.

In 2018, the national research and education network also launched its office for the formulation, execution, control and closure of projects through which it executed 26 Science, Technology and Innovation (CTeI) and IPv6 agreements with the Ministry of Health. Information and Communication Technologies, Colciencias, the District Health Department of Bogotá, SENA, the Bogotá Comptroller's Office, Solidarity Organizations, the National Navy and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. For the second year in a row, RENATA provided connectivity to Colombia 4.0, the largest event in the digital industry in the region.

In 2019, RENATA will focus its efforts on connecting more institutions to the Network and carrying out more inter-institutional projects in partnership with the academic and scientific community, the productive sector and the State, in such a way that the opportunities and the potential for collaborative work keep growing.
