Join the online conversation for International Data Protection Day
The National University Network (REUNA) and the Chilean Institute of Law and Technology invite you to take part in this virtual event, which will be held on Thursday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m. (GMT -3).
(Note based on REUNA: “Join the online forum for International Data Protection ”Day”—National University Network)
In its role as a collaborative entity within the science, technology, knowledge, and innovation ecosystem, REUNA has participated for the past five years in the commemoration of International Personal Data Protection Day, observed annually on January 28. This date marks the signing of Convention 108 of the Council of Europe, adopted in 1981 in Strasbourg, and seeks to raise awareness of the importance of protecting privacy and personal data in the digital age.
For Chile, this commemoration is particularly significant, as Law No. 21,719, which creates the Personal Data Protection Agency, will enter into force on December 1, 2026. This new regulation poses major challenges for both public and private institutions, establishing obligations such as the definition of privacy policies, consent management, the registration of data processing activities, and the safeguarding of individuals’ rights.
On this occasion, the event will feature a special participation by Francisco Pérez Bes, Vice President of the Spanish Data Protection Agency, who is responsible for the institution’s international cooperation activities.
