7 October: Join the RUTE-ALC dialogue on cybersecurity in healthcare!

The webinar will bring together specialists from Ecuador, Mexico and Brazil to analyse risks, institutional capabilities and opportunities for collaboration on cybersecurity within the Latin American healthcare sector. The session will take place on Wednesday 7 October 2026 and is open to the RedCLARA community and its member National Research and Education Networks (NRENs).

The digital transformation of healthcare services has increased the volume of sensitive information stored in electronic systems, ranging from personal data and medical records to test results. At the same time, hospitals, clinics and other institutions are increasingly reliant on digital infrastructure, the disruption of which can affect the continuity and safety of medical care.

Against this backdrop, the RUTE-ALC webinar “Cybersecurity in healthcare: protecting data and critical systems in the Latin American context” aims to strengthen regional knowledge and discussion regarding the digital threats facing the sector. The session will place particular emphasis on the role of NERNs and academic institutions in protecting sensitive data, strengthening critical systems and contributing to the continuity of healthcare services.

Over the course of 90 minutes, the session will address three key areas: the risks and protection of data and critical infrastructure; the capabilities required by institutions to prevent, detect and respond to incidents; and the collaborative mechanisms through which academic networks and universities can contribute to training, research, knowledge exchange and the issuance of alerts.

The session will be opened and moderated by Ms Daniela Álvarez, from the SGPD GROPLA Consultancy Team in Ecuador. Speakers will include Mr Badi Quinteros, from CEDIA (Ecuador); Mr Francisco Emmanuel Vázquez Repizo (Mexico); and Dr Guido Lemos de Souza Filho, from RNP (Brazil). The agenda will also include a session for questions, answers and discussion.
