The first meeting of the National Committee of the Copernicus Academy Uruguay took place in Montevideo on 20 August, in the framework of the BELLA II project and the establishment of the Copernicus Academy Uruguay.  The event was organized by the Uruguayan Academic Network (RAU), the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI), the National Emergency System (SINAE), and RedCLARA.

The priority objective of the meeting was to officially launch the Copernicus Academy in Uruguay, present the implementation strategy, the pilot project, and form the National Committee. This committee, comprising key stakeholders, from as universities, ministries, and the private sector, will play a crucial role defining theaction plan and priority areas of work.

RedCLARA coordinates the Copernicus Academy for Latin America and the Caribbean within the BELLA II project. t, the Copernicus Academy LAC aims to enhance capacity building and knowledge management in thematic areas of Earth observation to promote the adoption of Copernicus data in new sectors. In this way, it is expected to contribute to reducing the gap between competencies and using this program's data in Uruguay.

BELLA II, led by RedCLARA and co-funded by the European Union, is one of the four pillars of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance. The project aims to bridge the digital divide and support the development of the necessary infrastructure to consolidate and expand a digital ecosystem of science, technology, education, and innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Copernicus is the European Union's Earth Observation programme that monitors our planet and its environment for the maximum benefit of all citizens. It provides information services based on Earth observation satellite data and in-situ data.
