As a result of an agreement that enables interaction and collaborative work through voice calls over the Internet, academics and researchers from more than 127 institutions from both countries have now the possibility to communicate effectively and at low cost. This is one of the first results obtained after the First TICAL Conference.

eChallenges is an activity promoted by the European Commission, which annually gathers over 650 delegates to share knowledge and experience on research and technologies. The event will take place from 26 to 28 October in Florence, Italy.

The XII Latin American Meeting on Digital Cities will take place in the town of Bizkaia, from 28 to 30 September. This event is organized every year with the goal of exposing and transferring good practices in implementing ICT in the management of Local Government and the services they provide to their citizens.


A digital city: a city where technologies foster new relationships between people, governments, businesses and all organizations. These cities are very important to the construction of the new information society and imply that all citizens have easy and fast access to communication networks and these are available throughout the territory.

To discuss this issue the Ibero-American Digital Cities takes place since 1998, an event of great global significance, which aims to share the progress on the modernization and construction of this kind of societies.

This year's meeting will be held in Bilbao, where for three days conference will be conducted to analyze the experiences in different geographical locations. In addition, there will be roundtable discussions for a direct exchange of knowledge and practice.

This time, the meeting was organized under the theme "digital city as a place of innovation and knowledge" in order to raise awareness about the importance of creating smart cities and territories vital for the social, economic and staff of its citizens.

The XII Latin American Meeting on Digital Cities is organized by the Iberoamerican Association of Research Centers and Telecommunication Enterprises (AHCIET) and the Provincial Government of Biscay, through the Foundation BiscayTIK.
