MCI Sur workshop on monitoring systems in the coastal zone
ExpiredThe event, to be held on March 22 to 25 in Montevideo Uruguay, aim to lay the foundations for the implementation and development of systems for continuous monitoring of the coastal area of Uruguay, based on experiences and regional cooperation.
For four days the Palladium Hotel in Montevideo, Uruguay, will host the regional workshop "Systems of continuous monitoring of the coastal zone", organized by the Community Integrated Coastal Management in the Southern Cone (MCI Sur), a member of the COMCLARA 2010 Project of RedCLARA.
This initiative will develop a multi-sensor system to monitor complex coastal processes in critical areas of Uruguay, which require an interdisciplinary approach, such as erosion, unplanned use of recreation areas, tourist traffic and its impacts, public access to coastal areas, flood and urbanization, and the misuse of protected coastal wetland areas.
Continuous monitoring cameras connected to the Internet, continuous measurement equipment such as weather stations and salinity sensors, are part of the equipment that integrate the system.
Participate in the event specialists in conceptual and logistical aspects of the topic from Uruguay, Chile, Colombia and Canada, members of the MCI Sur Community members and guests of the coastal public sector in Uruguay, who will provide the knowledge of the matter and local critical areas.
According to the workshop program, expected results include providing the opportunity for interaction among specialists in the field, the definition of key features to implement a monitoring system in three areas of the Uruguayan coast, schedule new instances of exchange and discussion and development of joint projects.
