Colombia launches a National Grid
On April 1st will be introduce the National Grid computing to the Colombian academic community and authorities. This tools aims to identify and support initiatives that use the Grid to solve country's problems.
The use of High Performance Computing is becoming more important for the academic community in the countries and for the development of activities and overcoming challenges in all areas of the society.
For this reason, Colombia will present the organizational model of a National Grid Computing initiative which aims to enhance use of the Grid for the national benefit. The initiative of National Grid Computing will be launched on Friday April 1st and the event will be broadcast through the National Academic Network of Advanced Technology (RENATA).
During the event, it will be perform a demonstration of the operation of the National Grid to the academic community, special guests, representatives of the Ministry of ICT, COLCIENCIAS and the Ministry of National Education as well as representatives of affiliated regional networks of RENATA.
A representative of RENATA will explain the importance of the Grid for science in Colombia, an issue which will also be discussed later from the perspective of the importance for each institution in the country.
Issues such as the operating model of the infrastructure - services, applications, examples, current capacity, and its integration with Latin American Grid will also be addressed during the presentation.
