The FRIDA Program is a LACNIC initiative that aims at contributing to the development of the Information Society within our region by funding research projects and recognizing innovative projects in the use of ICTs (Information and Communications Technologies) for development.

The 2012 edition has two modalities: Award and Grants

Awards:
Any innovation or research project or initiative in the field of ICTs within the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region that, since 2007, has significantly contributed to the use of the internet made to the social and economic development of the Latin American and Caribbean region, may be nominated for the FRIDA Award.

Proposals submitted must fit into one of the following four themes: Access, Freedom, Innovation and Development. It also promotes votes for the initiatives through social networks. In this year FRIDA Awards will be an additional award to the project more voted and creative. See rules and details of the call for 2012 Awards Program here: http://programafrida.net/awards.

Grants:
The FRIDA Program provides financial support for projects in the form of "small grants." This means that each project is allocated a small sum, which allows their funding to be complemented by other sources. Proposals must be submitted by public, private and civil society in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. The amount allocated to selected projects may not exceed $ 15,000 and must be executed within a maximum period of twelve months. Research proposals submitted must fit into one of the four themes identified in our website:  http://programafrida.net/grants

Deadlines
• Deadline for participating in the contest: June 15th, 2012
• Deadline for online voting: June 29th, 2012
• Notification on the part of the jury: August 17th, 2012
