Internet Society's Project Funding Program Awards

ISOC, Interent Society, organize every year two calls for the "Project Funding Program Awards", where give founds to the community ISOC projects wich support the development and operation of the Internet, for example best practices in capacity building and education, research and education related to the Internet and internetworking.

The Internet Society presents the recipients of awards from its project funding program. The goal is to enhance the Internet environment around the world. This program initiative is intended to help ISOC Chapters and Members establish creative local programs in support of ensuring the "Internet is for Everyone."

The project leaders will be making periodic reports on their progress that will all be made available on the ISOC website.

May 2007 Awards
ISOC Armenia
Project leader Igor Mkrtumyan with partners CEENet/NATO, Armenian Academy of Science, and the Armenian national research and education networks awarded US$10,000 to examine achievements, problems and to identify solutions to help Armenian NRENs to create a modern infrastructure.

ISOC Benin
Project leader Pierre Dandjinou, awarded US$10,000 for a capacity building project focusing on IPv6 adoption providing hands on training to engineers.

ISOC Bulgaria
Project leader Dragoslava Pefeva awarded US$10,000 to develop and promote the Science, Education and Learning in Freedom (SELF) project - a web-based, multi-language, free content knowledge base on Free Software and Open Standards.

ISOC Congo
Project leader Jean Philemon Kissangou with partners UNDP and UNESCO awarded US$10,000 to deliver a capacity building project that will train a cross-section of the Congolese population in three different localities on how to use the Internet. The project will also create local ISOC community clubs in each of these localities.

ISOC Ecuador
Project leader Carlos Vera awarded US$10,000 to develop kits for Digital Inclusion in Spanish and Quichua.

ISOC Israel
Project leader Rimon Levy awarded US$10,000 with partner Access Israel Association to focus on providing web accessibility to Internet sites for people with disabilities.

ISOC Liberia
Project leader Philip Johnson awarded US$9,988 to develop an Internet Training and Awareness Centre that will provide basic Internet skills and awareness raising programmes to end-users in Liberia.

ISOC Mauritius
Project leader Dave Kissoondoyal with partners AfriNIC and ISOC Senegal awarded US$10,000 to deliver a hands on workshop on IPv6 for countries in the Indian Ocean.

ISOC Sierre Leone
Project leader Chrystabel Davis, awarded US$10,000 working with partner Sierra Vision to build Sierra Leone’s first Digital Village which offering free Internet access and training to provide exposure to the highest quality, standards-based and research-based educational and literacy resources to teachers, instructors and students in Sierra Leone.

ISOC China Taiwan
Project leader Chung Laung Liu awarded US$10,000 to document the past and future of Internet development in Taiwan using a WiKi approach.

Project leader Kaprie Thoronka working with Childhelp Sierre Leone and SES EXPERTS awarded US$10,000 to provide capacity building training in Computer studies and the Internet free of charge to school children, and to young adults focusing in particular on disadvantaged girls and women between the ages of 10-35.
